Apps are hugely successful because they are cheap, very simple to install, and work on multiple platforms, giving the user the experience which that particular user is seeking. Let’s look at that start of that statement again: Apps are hugely successful because they are cheap…. hmmmm.

Some greedy App Developers are not thinking along those same lines. Some App Developers are hungry for the fast buck that helped destroy the software market in the late 90’s. Those greedy App Developers think that if they charge $99 for an app, then they will get rich much faster than if they charge .99 cents for that same App, or even $1.99. And we are starting to see Apps that are a funny to look at. Well, funny to look at the price of the App for sure! $999 for an App? Are you smoking crack?

The economy and the market drive price points for product. Marketeers don’t just sit around a big round table in a posh office and come up with the idea, “Let’s charge $2.99 for a twelve pack of soda. It just sounds like a good number to me.” No, there is actually real thought behind the purchasing user and the overall market involved.

The App market was set up based on the premise of “free”, *.99 cents”, “$1.99” up to “$9.99”. Those are the tried and true price points of the App market. Tried and true even by the big App development team at Apple, Inc. There is reason, and wisdom behind those price points, and they have rapidly created wealth for many single minded App Developers that followed in fashion.

So who are the wise entities that are seeking $999 for an App for the iPad or iPhone or Blackberry etc…? Well, it appears that they are greedy, money hungry, out of the loop company heads. Apps are not the same as niftily boxed and pristinely packaged software with hard copy manuals attached. No, the successful App is built on speed of download, ease of installation, targeted market share to a particular or multiple platform and PRICE!

In case those greedy, over priced App teams are wondering, the economy is still collapsing around us. There is no end in sight still, no matter what the propaganda from television news would like you to believe. All you have to do is look around and notice the unemployment numbers as well as the “For Sale” signs in your very own neighborhood to prove it to yourself.

Who will win the App wars? The App Developer that is wise and stays within their price points in a smart and tidy manner. Adhering to the tried and true market flow of the current App world. Luckily, there are plenty of App Developers out there that know how to do this successfully and are doing it daily.

For users who want to monitor the price of Apps like the ebb and flow of the ocean’s tide, use AppShopper, a FREE app to monitor the price of Apps with many other filters available too.
